Nidhogg will be Released October 14 on PS4 and Vita.

Competitive multiplayer fencing game Nidhogg will launch on October 14 for PlayStation 4 and Vita.

Sony announced the release date for the cross-buy title today on the PlayStation Blog.

Developed by Messhof, the goal of the 2D pixel-based fighter is for either of two players to make it to the left or right of each level. Scoring a kill gives the winner a chance to run freely for a moment until the opponent respawns.

The indie two-player game can be played locally, Vita-to-Vita via ad-hoc mode, and online. Two players can also play on the same Vita using one thumbstick per player. 

The game also features a three to eight person local-multiplayer tournament mode.

Nidhogg was originally released on PC in January 2014. IGN gave its January Game of the Month winner a 9.0, calling it “an exhilarating and exquisitely balanced” swordfighter.
