Homefront Has a New Owner-Savior.

Clearly tired of Crytek's "transitional phase," publisher Deep Silver's parent company has acquired the Homefront intellectual property and related assets from Crytek. Homefront: The Revolution was under production at Crytek UK, with recent reports declaringproduction had halted and the game's director resigned.

"We strongly believe in the potentia
l of Homefront: The Revolution and trust in the new team to continue the path they have been walking in the last years," said Deep Silver CEO Dr. Klemens Kundratitz.

The game will now be completed by the newly founded Nottingham-based Deep Silver Dambuster Studio. We've followed up with Deep Silver about whether staff from Crytek UK is transitioning over and will update with any further details.

Homefront has had the happy home life of a Stark child in its brief lifetime. It was originally developed by Kaos Studios (deceased) and publisher THQ (deceased). It was then purchased by Crytek (currently in trouble) for a half-million dollars and given to Crytek UK, formerly known as Free Radical, which itself was a studio with a troubled past

EA Access: Play EA's Games with Subscription.

The Xbox One is to get a PlayStation Plus style download service from EA, as the publisher tries to create Netflix for games.
According to EA the service allows you to play ‘more games for less’ as you ‘binge on EA’s best Xbox One games’, starting with Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, Battlefield 4, and Peggle 2 during the beta period.
More games are promised once the service starts for real, and it’s implied it will include brand new titles. Subscribers will be able to access EA games five days before their release date and play them ‘for at least two hours’ before they’re officially available, with the likes of FIFA 15 and Dragon Age Inquisition specifically mentioned by name.
Subscribers will also get 10 per cent off digitally downloaded retail games on Xbox One. Which if you know download prices still doesn’t mean very cheap.
The beta version of the service begins today, and you can already sign-up here for £3.99($4.99 in America). We don’t see a yearly fee yet (it’s $29.99 in America) but for 12 months that works out as £47.88.
Why all of this is only on Xbox One is unclear, but although Microsoft and EA have been as thick as thieves since the console’s launch it may have more to do with Sony’s PlayStation Plus service – to which EA Access is essentially the EA equivalent.

August with Free Gaming On Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Microsoft today announced August's free Games With Gold titles for Xbox One and Xbox 360, totaling four games in all split between the two platforms.
On Xbox One, players with an active Xbox Live Gold subscription ($60/year) can download Crimson Dragon (normally $20) and Strike Suit Zero (normally $20). These will become available starting August 1, and they replace the current free games, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition and Max: Curse of Brotherhood. If you have not downloaded those games yet, now would be a good time to do so.
Xbox 360 players with the Xbox Live Gold subscription, on the other hand, can download Motocross Madness (normally $10) for free August 1-15. Then starting on August 16, subscribers can pick up Dishonored (normally $20) for free through the end of the month.
On Xbox 360, once you download a free game, it is yours to keep even if your Xbox Live Gold subscription lapses. But on Xbox One, you'll need to keep your Xbox Live Gold subscription active to hang on to the free games.

Battlefield: Hardline and Dragon Age: Inquisition Got Delayed

Somebody at EA must've hit the panic button. The game maker just announced that highly anticipated titles Battlefield Hardline and Dragon Age: Inquisition will both miss their expected release dates.
Hardline, developed by Dead Space creator Visceral Games, is the bigger delay. Originally scheduled for an October 21 release, the game is now delayed until "early 2015"—probably sometime in the February/March period where most just-missed-the-holidays games land.
"Back at E3, we launched a beta for Hardline — we wanted to not only show you the game, but to let you play it for yourselves. Millions of you jumped in and had a great time. As a result, the Visceral Games team learned a lot from players about what they wanted in the game," wrote DICE VP Karl Magnus Troedsson on the Battlefield blog.
"This feedback also spurred us to start thinking about other possibilities and ways we could push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better. The more we thought about these ideas, the more we knew we had to get them into the game you will all be playing. However, there was only one problem. We would need more time."
Despite the assertion that millions "had a great time" with the Battlefield Hardline beta, the consensus seemed to be that it felt too much like Battlefield 4, that military weaponry didn't really fit the cops and robbers format, and that it should have been an expansion rather than a standalone product. Whether any of these criticisms is fair, it's hard to say—we've only seen a beta, and not the full product. However, it's clear EA has heard the criticism—you don't just delay your flagship shooter franchise into the spring for no reason.
Perhaps the move is also an effort to get Hardline into its own release slot. WithBorderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Bungie's buzzed-about Destiny , and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare all releasing in the fall, maybe EA looked at the post-beta buzz for Hardline and decided it would do better in a less crowded environment.
Dragon Age: Inquisition, on the other hand, only slips a month or so—from October 7 to November 18. The reasons behind this delay are even more nebulous, but mostly seem to concern overall quality. "This last bit of time is about polishing the experience we want you to see. Ensuring that our open spaces are as engaging as possible. Strengthening the emotional impact of the Hero's choices. And ensuring the experience you get is the best it can be in the platform you choose to play on," wrote executive producer Mark Darrah.
Hopefully we won't see many more game delays, or else this fall's release schedule is going to get pretty darn barren.
