Xbox One Sales During Microsoft's Financial Report

Microsoft has opened up on its fourth quarter 2014 performance, one which had a lot of people excited to see how the Xbox One would close out its first financial year. Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but Microsoft isn’t revealing anything too specific.
It moved 11.7 million Xbox consoles in 2014, and 1.1 million of those came from the last quarter. However, that figure includes both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, including figures for the Xbox 360 before its successor was even released. The quarter results are only 100,000 up year-over-year from last year, a disappointingly moderate number considering it has a new console on the market.
Overall, Microsoft’s Computing and Gaming Hardware Division, which is responsible for Xbox and Surface, reports $1.4 billion in revenue and $9.6 billion for the year, a leap from $6.4 billion.
Xbox specifically grew with a revenue of $104 million over last year, reportedly due to the increased price of the Xbox One console. No information was provided about its first-party games or from Xbox Live.  Instead, it stated that this quarter was used to “draw down channel inventory.”
So, if you want to crunch those numbers and compare them to last year, by all means, go ahead. You might get a decent estimation of the Xbox One’s performance during its first year. The PlayStation 4 is currently outselling it on all fronts, and maybe Microsoft doesn’t want to shine a light on that.

Destiny Goes Mobile!

Bungie's upcoming Destiny will makes its way into your smartphone or tablet, at least as far as data and 3D models go. The Destiny Companion App has made its debut in the App Store and Google Play Store, and with it comes the ability to track your eventual gaming progress and more from a mobile device.

As you make your way through the much-anticipated game, the mobile app will be there every step of the way, updating with your latest information for at-a-glance information. Things like missions, bounties, statistics, and more will all be offered up by the companion app.

Through the Grimoire, gamers will be able to wade into the world's back story, with unlocked cards (done throughout the game) adding more details into the mix as you go along. Accompanying it will be your inventory, and regularly-updated models of your characters.

Both apps are available now for free; if you're not running either mobile OS, you can also access it on the Web. Unfortunately, there are no plans to launch a Windows Phone version, but support for iPads will arrive by the official game.

Xbox One: Game Demo Support

The latest update for Xbox One has added the means to download the demo of a game and then unlock its full version, a quiet upgrade that independent developers in particular may start using.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Chris Charla, the head of Microsoft's ID@Xbox independent games program, said the trial feature arrived with the latest update to the console. It's been feasible on Xbox Live for Xbox 360 for years, particularly with regard to games offered on its indie channel.
"That's something that we recently turned on," Charla told Eurogamer. "I don't think we've seen any ID@Xbox games yet that have shipped with trials, but we may well in the future. It's something that's open to everybody."
Charla added that gamers may expect "lots more games coming" through the ID@Xbox channel. "There are a lot in development for 2015, and some for 2016, too."

Ready for Action On Next-gen Consoles the Shadow Warriors

Last year’s excellent Shadow Warrior reboot is coming to new-gen consoles, Devolver Digital has announced.
Both digital and physical versions of the game are coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in late September.
Shadow Warrior is a bold new version of the 1997 cult classic, reimagined with a blend of modern design, inventive combat mechanics, and a contemporary retelling of Lo Wang’s comical rise to legend.
The game tells the tale of Zilla Enterprise’s corporate shogun, Lo Wang, who is ordered by his employer to track down and acquire a legendary blade. Forced into a timeless battle, Lo Wang learns of the blade’s connection to ancient gods from another realm, pushing our world to the brink of destruction. Aided by Hoji, a banished spirit from this mysterious world, Lo Wang must use a masterful combination of gun, blade, magic and wit to discover the truth behind the demonic invasion and banish the encroaching forces back into the darkness.
Shadow Warrior succeeds in providing a visceral and satisfying sword-wielding, gun-toting splatterfest – one which no doubt will find an eager audience with FPS fans looking for a pure action experience,” wrote Gameplanet’s Chris Brown in his glowing review of the resurrected FPS.

Cole Train Returns on Gears of War 4

We’ve heard nearly nothing about the next installment of the Gears of War series, not even at E3 where many thought Microsoft would at least hint at a new game. Rather, the show closed with the revelation of Crackdown instead.
As such, any time we get even a morsel of information about the next Gears, it’s cause for celebration. Such is the case today as voice actor Lester Speight responded to a fan that yes, he had been called on to reprise his role as one of the game’s supporting characters, Augustus “Cole Train” Cole.
That would imply that there’s no sort of grand reboot in the works that would eliminate the other main characters of the game, including Marcus Fenix, Damon Baird and Anya Stroud. The Gears franchises recently slipped a bit with spin-off game, Gears of War: Judgement, starring Baird in the titular role, selling less than 1.5 million copies while all three numbered installments sold over six million.Gears of War is arguably Microsoft’s second most important and iconic series after Halo. But like Halo, it’s out of the hands of its original creators now. Bungie handed over Halo 4 and all future games to 343, while Epic Games sold the Gears IP directly to Microsoft, meaning it will forever remain an Xbox-exclusive franchise. The new game is being developed by Black Tusk as Epic moves on to other projects.
The Gears series has always been a solid performer for Microsoft, and each installment seemed to push the limits of what the Xbox 360 was capable of graphically. Ask most anyone who owned the console, and they’ll list one or all three of the Gears of War installments as examples of the best-looking games on the system, or really of the entire console generation.
That’s exactly the sort of thing Microsoft could use now, a good game, but also a beautiful one, to put to bed rumors that the Xbox One is underpowered compared to its rival, Sony's PS4. Technically it is somewhat less powerful given the hardware, but Gears has always pushed Microsoft’s systems beyond what was thought to be possible in terms of their graphical capabilities. A gorgeous Gears title for Xbox One could help to shift the narrative surrounding that system.
Again, we know very little about the new Gears of War, other than who’s making it and now that at least one old favorite character is returning. But it’s a game that the Xbox One very much needs to be a hit, as Microsoft needs all hands on deck to create must-have exclusives for the system in the face of stiff competition from Sony and Nintendo.

Space Hulk: Deathwing is being developed in Unreal Engine 4 by Streum On Studio, the French company behind the 2011 title E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy.
